Why prepare with Eric

A conservatoire-trained performer, wherever you live

Eric Chung holds a Master of Music from the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp and trained in Classical Piano Performance and Violin Performance at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. He also runs professional, exam-standard mock exams for his students.

🎼

A programme that fits you

Eric helps you choose a balanced programme that meets the board's current requirements and shows your playing at its best, rather than pieces that are a stretch too far.

🎹

Learnt step by step

Every piece is learnt from the beginning in weekly lessons: notes and fingering, then technique, interpretation, style and stage presence.

🏆

Exam-standard mock exams

Full run-throughs marked to exam standard, so you know exactly where you stand well before the real exam.

Coming back to the piano?

Patient support for returning players

Many diploma students are adults whose playing isn't where it used to be. That's normal. Eric starts by hearing where you are now, then rebuilds technique and confidence gradually, at a pace that fits your life, before the diploma pieces get demanding.

How it works

From first lesson to exam day

Assessment lesson

Play something you're comfortable with. Eric hears your current level and talks through your goals, timeline and practice routine.

Programme and plan

Together you choose your diploma programme and set a realistic schedule towards your exam date.

Weekly lessons and mocks

For digital (recorded) diplomas

  • Send recordings between lessons for detailed feedback through Online Coaching (diploma level: £35 per piece).
  • Able to come to London? Eric can arrange for your exam video to be recorded on a grand piano.

Good to know

Diploma preparation: your questions

Can I prepare for a piano diploma online?

Yes. Eric prepares students online for Trinity ATCL, LTCL and FTCL, and ABRSM ARSM, DipABRSM and LRSM performance diplomas in piano and violin, with live 1-on-1 lessons on a video call.

Do you prepare students for Trinity digital diploma exams?

Yes. Eric helps you choose a programme that meets the current syllabus, learn every piece, and record your performance to submit to the exam board.

How much do diploma lessons cost?

Diploma lessons start from £60. Your exact fee depends on your diploma level and lesson length, and is confirmed after a free 20-minute consultation. Between lessons you can also send videos for written and video feedback through Online Coaching: £35 for one diploma piece, or £129 for a Full Exam Check.

Will you help me choose my diploma programme?

Yes. Choosing a programme that suits your current playing and meets the board's requirements is the first part of preparation.

My playing has slipped since my last exam. Is that a problem?

No. Eric often teaches adults returning to the piano and builds your playing back up gradually before the diploma repertoire.

I live outside the UK. Can I still have lessons?

Yes. Lessons are online worldwide and are scheduled on UK time, Monday to Saturday. Tell us your time zone when you book.

How long does diploma preparation take?

It depends on your starting level and how much you can practise. Eric gives you a realistic timeline after your assessment lesson.

Can lessons be in Cantonese or Mandarin?

Yes. Eric is fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin, and lessons can be taught in any of the three.
