Why join the club

Practise together. Become a better pianist.

For piano students of all ages, and adults coming back to the piano. Not just for exams: bring any question about a new score. Other instruments are coming soon.

  • A community to practise with

Same friendly faces each week. Everyone stumbles on a new score, so nobody's judged.

  • Ask anything

Confused by a key, a rhythm or a sign? Ask Eric there and then.

  • Read notes by shape

Steps, skips and patterns, not note by note.

  • Rhythm first

Count it before you play, and keep the pulse.

  • Scan before you start

Key, time, clef, tempo and repeats in 30 seconds.

  • Keep going

Look ahead instead of stopping at a mistake.

How a 45-minute session runs (minutes)

  1. 0–5Warm up. Cameras on, and a rhythm clap to set the pulse.
  2. 5–10Tip of the week. One reading skill for your level.
  3. 10–40Your turn. A new piece, 30 seconds to look, then play it. Eric gives one fix and you try again. Every player plays, every session.
  4. 40–45Questions & take it home. Ask anything you got stuck on, then a short reading task for the week.

Sound

  • In Zoom audio settings, turn on Original sound for musicians and switch off background noise suppression. Otherwise Zoom cuts out the piano's tone.
  • Keep the device about 1 m from the piano, so loud passages don't distort.
  • Stay muted until Eric calls your name.

Room and light

  • Light in front of you or from the side. A bright window behind you turns you into a silhouette.
  • Quiet room, door closed, other devices on silent.
  • Charger plugged in, and sit close to the Wi-Fi.

Record your weekly practice

  1. Pick a short piece you haven't seen: a hymn book, an easy duet, a page from a new book, or Eric's weekly task.
  2. Start recording, then take 30 seconds to look through it.
  3. Play it once without stopping, even after a mistake.
  4. Watch it back. Note one thing: pulse, notes or dynamics.
  5. Bring that one thing as your question for Eric.

5-minute setup test

Do this once before your first session. Tick as you go.

Before you bookTerms and conditionsCancelling, arriving late, one level, no recording by participants, payment

These apply to every Sight-Reading Club booking. Booking a place means you agree to them.

  1. Cancelling

To cancel, email music@cadenza-london.com at least 48 hours before the session starts. If you cancel within 48 hours of the start time, or don't attend without telling us, you will no longer be able to join any free sessions.

  2. Arriving late

The session starts on time. Anyone joining more than 10 minutes after the start time will not be let in to that session.

  3. One level per student

Each student can only join one level, unless advised by Cadenza London.

  4. Photos, video and social media

Every session is recorded. Anyone taking part, including students under 18, may appear in photos, video or audio clips on Cadenza London's social media. To ask for a clip to be taken down, email us.

  5. No recording by participants

You must not record, screenshot or screen-capture any part of a session, including the video, the audio and the music Eric shares. Only Cadenza London may record sessions. Anyone who breaks this rule will be removed from the session and from future sessions, without a refund, and Cadenza London may take legal action.

  6. Students under 18

A parent or guardian must make the booking and stay in the room for the whole session.

  7. Places

Places are confirmed by email. Beginner and Intermediate take up to 8 players; Advanced takes up to 6. Until 31 December 2026 a session runs with at least 3 players; from January 2027 it needs at least 4. Every player plays in every session they attend. Listeners keep their camera off and don't play. If you pay and a session turns out to be full, we refund you in full. If a session can't run, or we change a date, time or price, we will email you first.

  8. Payment and monthly plans

Sessions are free until 31 December 2026. Monthly plans started by 31 January 2027 keep their price for as long as the plan continues without a break; if you cancel and rejoin later, the price at that time applies. From January 2027, current Cadenza London students get 1 free session each calendar month; any further sessions are charged at the normal price, and unused free sessions don't carry over. From January 2027 you pay by card through Stripe, per session or by monthly plan. A monthly plan renews on the same date each month. To stop it, cancel at least 7 days before your next payment date. If you cancel later, the next month is still charged, and the plan then ends.

Questions

Good to know

Is it really free?

Yes, every session until 31 December 2026 is free. See Price for January onwards. Current Cadenza London students get 1 free session a month.

Is this exam preparation?

No. It's for anyone who wants to read new piano music faster: children, teenagers, and adults coming back to the piano. Better reading helps in exams too, but that isn't the focus.

Can I ask questions during the session?

Yes, please do. If something in a new score confuses you, a key, a rhythm, a sign, ask Eric there and then. There's also time at the end for questions. They don't have to be about exams.

Is it only for piano?

For now, yes. Sessions for other instruments and voice are coming soon. Tick the newsletter box when you book and we'll tell you first.

What do I need?

A piano or keyboard, a phone, tablet or laptop with Zoom, and a stand to hold it. Eric shares each new piece on screen, so you don't need any books.

What if only a few people book?

Until 31 December a session runs with 3 or more players. From January it needs at least 4. If fewer have booked by 24 hours before, we'll email you and move your place to the next session for your level.

What's the difference between a player and a listener?

Players play a new piece each session. Listeners keep their camera off and learn by watching. If a player place opens, we offer it to listeners first.

Will I always get to play?

Yes. Every player plays in every session. That's why we cap groups at 8 (Advanced: 6). If a session is full, you can join as a listener, or we'll open another time slot.

Can I record the session myself?

No. Recording, screenshots and screen capture by participants are not allowed, including the music shown on screen. Breaking this rule means removal from the club and may lead to legal action. See the terms.

Can I cancel?

Yes, by emailing music@cadenza-london.com at least 48 hours before the session. Cancelling later than that, or not turning up, means you can't join free sessions any more. See the terms.

Will I be recorded?

Yes. Every session is recorded, and anyone taking part may appear in photos or clips on Cadenza London's Instagram and other social media. Agreeing to this is part of booking. To ask for a clip to be taken down, email music@cadenza-london.com.

How do you keep children safe online?

A parent or guardian registers every student under 18 and stays in the room for the session. The Zoom waiting room is on, Eric admits only booked names, private chat is off, and the joining link is sent by email only.

Is this the same as a lesson?

No. It's group practice for one skill: reading new music. For one-to-one help with your playing, book a private lesson with Eric.
